This week in pre-K we are learning about reptiles. They are a special kind of animal that breathes air, has a backbone, has scales or a shell or both, and is cold-blooded. Reptile babies emerge from eggs. Today we have distinguished whether some animals are reptiles or not. We have talked about a protractor and what it is used for. We showed them the difference in the angles between a human and a snake on how wide they are able to open their mouths. We talked about dinner choices with one of our read aloud, The Lizards in the Window. We discussed the food groups that were missing and what the family might add to their dinner. In math we separated items up to 10 equal groups. We displayed a 10 frame and they were able to tell us how many was on each row and that they were equal. We also connected numbers with quantity and compared them. They drew a number card and counted out that amount of counting cubes. Then they placed only 5 cubes on a 5 frame and asked how many were left. They then had to find the picture card that matched the combination they had just made.

Our 18-36m toddler class is learning about horses and cows this week, we learned that although we get our milk from a store before that we collect the milk from cows and with milk we can get ice cream and butter. Today they got to make butter, they shook the containers full of heavy cream as hard as they could and were so surprised to see the butter and butter milk after it had separated. Their little expressions were the absolute best!!

Kindergarten students are working on reading and spelling simple words. In this activity, each student received a letter and had to listen to the word called to see if their letter sound was heard in the word. Then, students had to build the word together. The "audience" had to read the word to make sure it was spelled correctly.

This week in pre-K we have been learning about mammals. We have learned that they are special kind of animal that breathes air, has a backbone, grows hair/fur, and is warm-blooded. They also feed their babies with milk from their mothers. Our children are realizing they are mammals too! In morning message I have been starting our sentences with lower case letters allowing the children to spot the error and notice it needs a capital letter to begin. They have also telling me the type of punctuation that it needs. In literacy we have been differentiating what is/is not a mammal. We have also separated sentences into words and understanding that sentences are comprised of words separated by spaces. In math we have used objects/pictures to subtract objects from sets of 0-5, recognize patterns, while connecting math to the real world. We have also created and extended patterns.
